Two Associates of the William Angliss Institute @ SLIIT lead the United Nations World Tourism Celebrations in Sri Lanka.
Taking on the paramount role of Moderator at the International Tourism Leaders’ Summit and the International Tourism Research Conference, hosted on World Tourism Day 2020 (27th September 2020) at the Kandy City Center, Mr. Kasun Abeynayaka Manager Industry Engagement/ Senior Lecturer, conducted an electrifying and exhilarating panel discussion with an assembly of highly influential members of the country.
Brainstorming with esteemed panelists Dr. Razia Pendse, UN World Health Organization (WHO) Representatives to Sri Lanka, Ms. Simrin Singh, ILO Country Director for Sri Lanka & the Maldives, Prof. (Dr). D.A.C. Suranga Silva, Secretary General: Tourism and Hospitality Educators and Researchers Association of Asia (THERAA) and Mrs. Kimarli Fernando, Chairperson of Sri Lanka Tourism, in a thorough discussion revolving the Sri Lankan Tourism Industry and the Country’s resilience during these difficult times combating the pandemic.
Bearing the honorable responsibility of Master of Ceremonies, Lecturer Mr. Madushan Jayathilake hosted the World Tourism Day Celebrations 2020 at the Kandy City Center.
The event was graced by none other than the key note Speaker L.H.S.C. Silva WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc Commander of the Army and Acting Chief of Defence Staff. Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva elaborated studiously on the resilience of the tourism industry and the strategies which have been implemented to combat against COVID, with Sri Lanka being one of the best cases of strategic movement against the pandemic, discussing the army’s current battle with drugs and drug usage and touching on problems which the Hospitality Industry have faced with hotel quarantining.
